washout

I had decided not to spend time and money to travel south to Sepang to watch Formula BMW Asia, GP2 Asia and Formula One races because I’d read daily of rain forecast for each afternoon and evening this weekend. On Penang we’ve had rain most evenings. If I’d gone down to Sepang on Sunday, I could’ve seen an interesting GP2 race in the afternoon, but I don’t know who any of the drivers are and thus don’t care who takes which position on track nor who wins. I know who the drivers in F1 are, but I thought that the race which was slated to start at 5 p.m., would likely be rained-out. And it was. »→

declined

Well, I volunteered to donate blood at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church during the one day that Hospital Pulau Penang employees came to collect as they move from place to place, from church to school to church in George Town. I was turned-away as a potential donor because I’ve only been in Malaysia for a month. Oh, well. I am disease-free and have given 14 gallons of blood in the U.S. without a hitch.

rain forecast

Thunderstorms and rain are forecast for peninsular Malaysia, including Sepang in Selangor on Friday, Saturday and Sunday when Sepang International Circuit will host round two of the Formula One season. So maybe I won’t go. I haven’t bought bus tickets or track tickets. I can stay home in George Town, which will also be rained-upon, and view qualifying and racing on television. Or I can pay money to brave the weather in a poncho and not take a camera. I can stand or sit on C2 ( covered hillside) for 200 ringgit – just me and a poncho and maybe something cushy to sit on. Apparently F1 cars will qualify in rain on a wet track and will race in rain, but thunderstorms are forecast each afternoon, so I surmise that rain will be heavy and the track could be flooded in places, unless, as an eleven-year-old track it has a modern, superior water drainage system.
