good stewardship … not

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York hired Anita Collins, a known embezzler on probation, who since has embezzled more than a million dollars in seven years!

She stole every month but one while employed by the archdiocese, averaging $142,857 per year (if the total is exactly one million). But not until December 2011 did anyone notice that money had been misappropriated. And no supervisor of Collins is charged with complicity or disciplined for gross negligence.

Collins spent $18,000 for furniture in Bloomingdale’s, $37,000 for clothes in Barneys and Brooks Brothers, and $19,000 for goods in an Irish gift shop. She bought teddy bears and many dolls from Madame Alexander. A court-appointed attorney said that Collins has no money remaining!  »→

the dark side – AUGH!

I never expected to install Windows on my iMac or MacBook Pro. Oh, my gosh. What is the world coming to?

The Florida State University is forcing me to obtain and to learn to use Microsoft Office Project and Microsoft Office Visio (drawing flowcharts and diagrams) for COM 5450 Project Management course.

Too bad that The Florida State University, The College of Communication and Information, or the Project management instructor didn’t advise me before registering for the course, or between registering for the course and the start of the course, or on the first day of the course, or on the second day of the course that I would need to do this.

All I knew was that I needed three books. I had bought them and dutifully read two in their entirety before the semester began.

I  hadn’t known that I must obtain these applications and obtain a windoze pee-cee or somehow install Windows on a Mac so that I could run windoze applications. Surprise! »→

if you must run Windows on a Mac

How can we run Windows 7 and/or Windows applications on Apple computers?

On a Macintosh computer, we can install software that allows us to run Microsoft Windows operating system and applications that were made for that operating system.

PowerPC-chip-based Mac computers:

To use Windows and Windows applications on an older Mac with a PowerPC central processor, we can install hardware emulation software such as Guest PC and Bochs x86 PC emulator. These work by mimicking hardware within an application.

When we run a windoze program in the emulation environment, the software intercepts commands and translates them into code that the PowerPC chips can understand.

This solution allows using many PC applications and, even multiple operating systems (Windows, Linux). However, the speed is much slower than on a PC or a Mac with an Intel-brand chip (whose logic, or ways of computing, Windows applications are designed for).

Intel chip-based Macs:

Mac computers made since 2007 use Intel-brand CPUs (central processing units) of the same design as those in windoze PCs, they can run Windows and Windows applications as quickly as Intel-chip-based computers that aren’t made by Apple.

Several methods are available for running Windows operating system on Intel Macs:

store clerk: Because it’s made in the United States.”

customer: But if it’s a product of the U.S., it’s not really Alaskan salmon, right?

store clerk: The label’s correct, ma’am.

customer: So, it’s not from Alaska?

store clerk: Alaska is part of the United States. The salmon is fresh from Alaska.

customer: Oh, okay… (rolls eyes and leaves)

Drill, spill, and kill!

The fed’ril guvinment approved an oil drilling plan for British Petroleum to return to the Gulf of Mexico and drill up to four wells nearly 200 miles from the Louisiana coast, a year and a half after the Transocean drilling rig accident that killed 11 men and poured hundreds of millions of gallons of crude oil into the Gulf.

BP, Transocean, and Halliburton recently got 15 citations for the April 2010 debacle, assessing 45 million dollars in fines.

Edward Markey, on the U.S. House of Representatives Natural Resources Committee, said, “Comprehensive safety legislation hasn’t passed Congress, and B.P. hasn’t paid the fines they owe for their spill, yet B.P. is being given back the keys to drill in the Gulf.”
